Social distancing is deliberately increasing the physical space between people to avoid spreading illness. Governments around the world are advising people to socially distance themselves in order to reduce pressures on health services and stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect vulnerable populations. As a society we are doing our part to flatten the curve, but it is important to also make sure we do not sacrifice our mental health in the process!
During this global pandemic, social distancing is essential to making sure that populations most at risk (i.e. children, older adults, and the immunocompromised) are safe. It is important that we also pay attention to our mental health in fulfilling our social duty. For many of us within the university community meeting our friends physically was the norm. Isolation and quarantine are now the new way of life but adapting to this new type of social interaction can cause feelings of loneliness. Our platform hopes to use this pandemic as an opportunity to meet new people and support each other as students during these unprecedented times.
